The Journey United Methodist Church
and
Kyle United Methodist Church
Letter about Charge Conference and Celebration
To The Journey and Kyle UMC Congregations,
What a joy it has been to begin worshiping with our two congregations together! The next steps are to make it official and to celebrate!
We announced in worship Sunday, March 1 and we also want to share in writing that we will be holding a joint Church Conference on Thursday March 12th, 2026 at 7:30pm (in the Family Life Center of Kyle United Methodist Church) to officially vote on the merging of our two congregations. Below you will find a link to the official merger document that has been reviewed and approved by both of our churches’ Council/Admin Board and also approved by the District and Conference. This document is the only item we will be voting on.
Any professing member of either congregation who is present at the meeting will be allowed to vote. (“Professing” refers to making a profession of faith and generally means anyone that has joined the church as an adult or who has been confirmed.)
Highlights of What the Merger Document Entails:
- “After prayerful discernment, mutual conversation, and reliance upon God’s guidance, the leadership of both congregations believes that it is in the best interest of their ministries, members, and witness to the Gospel to come together as one church”
- We will be coming together using the name Kyle United Methodist Church effective April 1st, 2026.
- On April 1st:
- All members of The Journey will become members of Kyle United Methodist Church.
- Pastor KP will be appointed as a pastor at Kyle UMC and paid his regular salary until July 1, 2026 (starting July 1, he will be reappointed to a new church and we will have only one appointed pastor).
- Pastor Kallie will remain at Kyle UMC
- After paying any remaining bills, all remaining funds and assets of The Journey will be transferred to Kyle UMC (these will help cover KP’s salary in this interim period).
If you would like to read the full document, you can read it below.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to reach out to Pastor Kallie or Pastor KP. We will both be available after Coffee Hour (Tuesday, March 3 at 10:30am) and after our first Lenten Gathering (Thursday, March 5th at 7:30pm) and by appointment.
Merging Celebration!
On Sunday, March 15th both our Bishop, Cynthia Fierro-Harvey, and our District Superintendent, Tracey Beadle, will be in attendance at both our 9am and 11am services for this special day as we ask God’s blessing and celebrate what God is doing and will do as we bring our two congregations together. Between the services we will have a reception and celebration in the Fellowship Hall.
P.S. Lenten Gatherings!
Join us this Thursday, March 5th for our first Lenten Gathering from 6:15-7:15 we will have a light supper with fellowship followed by breakout sessions for all ages and different interest areas. (Nursery care will be provided.) The next ones will be March 12 and March 26.
