You can use this guide to follow along with the prerecorded worship service on Youtube that will be live by Sunday morning: https://youtu.be/VS8GiIMXjWE
Or you can use it as a standalone devotional by yourself or with the members of your household.
You might consider lighting a candle which is a helpful symbol and reminder of God’s presence in our midst.

Opening Prayer
Dear God, silence all the distractions and noise so that we can hear your voice. Help us to listen, to seek and be able to follow your will. We pray for our neighbors, especially those who are working in the cold and those who have inadequate shelter. Even as we worship in separate places, may our prayers be joined with those of our siblings in Christ that together we may glorify your name. In Jesus’ name we pray together, Amen.

Be Thou My Vision1
1. Be thou my vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that thou art;
Thou my best thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, thy presence my light.
2. Be thou my Wisdom, and thou my true Word;
I ever with thee and thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father, and I thy true son,
Thou in me dwelling, and I with thee one.
3. Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise;
Thou mine inheritance, now and always;
Thou and thou only, first in my heart,
High King of heaven, my treasure thou art.
4. High King of heaven, my victory won,
May I reach heaven’s joys, O bright heaven’s Sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.
First Reading 1 Corinthians 1:10-182
10 Now I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you be in agreement and that there be no divisions among you but that you be knit together in the same mind and the same purpose. 11 For it has been made clear to me by Chloe’s people that there are quarrels among you, my brothers and sisters. 12 What I mean is that each of you says, “I belong to Paul,” or “I belong to Apollos,” or “I belong to Cephas,” or “I belong to Christ.” 13 Has Christ been divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul? 14 I thank God that I baptized none of you except Crispus and Gaius, 15 so that no one can say that you were baptized in my name. 16 I did baptize also the household of Stephanas; beyond that, I do not know whether I baptized anyone else. 17 For Christ did not send me to baptize but to proclaim the gospel—and not with eloquent wisdom, so that the cross of Christ might not be emptied of its power.
18 For the message about the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
The word of God for the people of God.
Thanks be to God.
Children’s Message
Alissa has recorded a time for children in the prerecorded video of worship. There is also at the bottom of this page a link to a coloring page and a video of craft ideas you could do at home with basic supplies.
Second Reading Matthew 4:12-23
12 Now when Jesus heard that John had been arrested, he withdrew to Galilee. 13 He left Nazareth and made his home in Capernaum by the sea, in the territory of Zebulun and Naphtali, 14 so that what had been spoken through the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled:
15 “Land of Zebulun, land of Naphtali,
on the road by the sea, across the Jordan, Galilee of the gentiles—
16 the people who sat in darkness
have seen a great light,
and for those who sat in the region and shadow of death
light has dawned.”
17 From that time Jesus began to proclaim, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.”
18 As he walked by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea—for they were fishers. 19 And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of people.” 20 Immediately they left their nets and followed him. 21 As he went from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John, in the boat with their father Zebedee, mending their nets, and he called them. 22 Immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.
23 Jesus went throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and curing every disease and every sickness among the people.

Reflection and Discussion Questions
- Jesus ask the disciples to follow him and immediately they get up and follow him.
- If you were one of the disciples and could ask Jesus one question before leaving your nets, what would your question be?
- Leaving their nets implies leaving behind their financial security, identity, and sense of purpose – which of those would be hardest for you to leave behind and why?
- What are things God has asked you to give up or that you have had to leave behind in order to begin a new chapter?
- In the 1 Corinthians passage Paul talks about people having a misplaced sense of identity in teachers instead of Christ himself. What kind of labels do we use to describe or define our identity? How can these help or distract us from our identity in Christ?
- Are there any things in your life that you feel like God might be asking you to let go of or hold onto more loosely?
Song of Response
I Will Follow (Lyrics on Video)
(Alternative Hymn for Worship without Video)
He Leadeth Me: O Blessed Thought3
- He leadeth me: O blessed thought!
O words with heavenly comfort fraught!
Whate’er I do, where’er I be,
still ’tis God’s hand that leadeth me.
Refrain:
He leadeth me, he leadeth me,
by his own hand he leadeth me;
his faithful follower I would be,
for by his hand he leadeth me.
- Sometimes mid scenes of deepest gloom,
sometimes where Eden’s bowers bloom,
by waters still, o’er troubled sea,
still ’tis his hand that leadeth me.
(Refrain) - Lord, I would place my hand in thine,
nor ever murmur nor repine;
content, whatever lot I see,
since ’tis my God that leadeth me.
(Refrain) - And when my task on earth is done,
when by thy grace the victory’s won,
e’en death’s cold wave I will not flee,
since God through Jordan leadeth me.
(Refrain)
Affirmation of Faith: The Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Prayers in Sympathy
The family of Ana Maria Rivera
O Christ, our Lord, in times past many servants of yours brought their friends and loved ones to your side, that they might be blessed and healed. So today we bring to your attention those we have named above and described below. Please look on our faith, small as it is, and send your peace, send your Spirit.
We pray together…
for those who are ill, who face surgeries, and those recovering . . .
for those who suffer mental and emotional distress . . .
for those who struggle with addictions . . .
for those who provide health care . . .
for those who are lonely, orphans, and displaced . . .
for those who are poor, hungry, and homeless . . .
for those who are rich and powerful . . .
for those who are imprisoned and those who are persecuted . . .
for those who are unemployed and those who are exploited . . .
for those who provide social services and counsel . . .
for those who expect a child or yearn for a child . . .
for those who provide childcare and education . . .
for those who labor in business and government . . .
for those who serve in our armed forces . . .
for those who are leaders in Christian churches throughout the world . . .
for those who make peace in the world and those who are our enemies . . .
Loving God, we offer these prayers, joining our voices to the great chorus of those who sing your praise. We long for that day when all your children will live in your peace and praise your name. Until that day, give us sturdy patience and enduring hope, rooted only in Jesus, in whose name we pray. Amen.
The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
Prayer of Confession
Merciful God, as we seek your love and light, there are times when darkness invades our lives. Forgive us when we hide our true selves from you. Forgive us when we quarrel with one another, allowing our pride to overcome our commitment to the community. Forgive us when we give life’s activities priority over following the ways of Christ. O God, open our hearts to your grace, as you once again fill us with your love and light. Amen.
Words of Assurance
People of God, hear the good news of the gospel and rejoice!
We are forgiven, and God’s grace sets us free to love again. Amen.
Offering Prayer
Loving God, light of the world, we thank you for all the gifts you have given us. Help us to be willing to lay aside whatever stands in the way of responding to your call. As we offer you ourselves and our gifts, we pray that you would use these offerings for your purposes, transforming us into ever more faithful disciples as we learn to walk in your ways. In the name of Christ, we pray. Amen.

Blessed Be the Tie That Binds 4
- Blest be the tie that binds
our hearts in Christian love;
the fellowship of kindred minds
is like to that above. - Before our Father’s throne
we pour our ardent prayers;
our fears, our hopes, our aims are one,
our comforts and our cares. - We share each other’s woes,
our mutual burdens bear;
and often for each other flows
the sympathizing tear. - When we asunder part,
it gives us inward pain;
but we shall still be joined in heart,
and hope to meet again.
